I
have always been captivated by water, antiquity and textures. They have qualities that
are marvelous to capture on paper. Water for instance. It's fluidity lends itself
to watercolor. The cloads reflecting on the water also have character. All different shapes sizes, and colors reflect
on water that is hardly ever still.
And then there is antiquity. Old
boats, buildings, barns and even old landscapes are full of textures, colors, shapes
and smells. There is a sense of history in everthing. I want
the viewer to see the history and let the imagination help to create
a sense of having been there. The windows and doors in buildings
always raise questions. What do you see when you look in… or out
of a window?
I work mostly in watercolors, acrylics
and mixed media.
I like watercolor the most because it can be handled so many different ways while acrylics
allow me to create more detailed paintings which are sometimes needed to convey
a particular mood or sensation.
I use a camera to record the basic subject and then to capture close up details to use when painting the picture. I believe attention to the details is important. While I consider myself a realist, I don't want the paintings to be so stiff they become photographs, but enough detail is needed to add believability to the subject. This is important when doing watercolors of buildings, boats and other man made structures.
I want my art to evoke a sensation
or emotion from the viewer… One they get every time they look at
the painting. |
